Subpoena Investigators In Tinubu’s Drug Case – Igho Akeregha

Igho Akeregha, a prominent figure in the Nigerian political scene, has urged the Supreme Court to speed up the ruling on the Labour Party’s presidential election petition. He believes that the inclusion of Tinubu’s indictment for drug-related crimes in the United States in the petition can be resolved quickly if the investigators who handled the case could be subpoenaed to testify before the Supreme Court.

In an interview on AIT, Akeregha pointed out that the document revealing Tinubu’s conviction for drug-related crimes in the US had not been disputed. He added that the President-elect, by their own admission, is a convict, and that the Supreme Court should not waste any more time on the matter.

His statements reads;

“Nobody has disputed the document that revealed Tinubu was convicted for drug related crime in the US. What Bayo Onanuga said was that it was more than 10 years ago and that the Nigerian specifies that you can run for an election with the effusion of time, probably after 10 years. So they are agreeing that it did happen, so it’s no longer alleged. So the president elect, by their own admission is a convict and if he is a convict, what do the supreme court need to do? Why waste so much time?”

“They can subpoena the Investigators who investigated the case to Nigeria to come and testify before the supreme court. Somebody can be subpoena from the United States to come and testify about that happened. If that is done, the other aspect we have to look at will be the alleged double nomination.”
