According to the Vatican, Pope Francis has contracted a respiratory infection and will be spending a few days in the hospital in Rome.
Although the 86-year-old has been experiencing breathing issues recently, it has been confirmed that he does not have Covid-19. The statement released by the Vatican explained that he will require “a few days of appropriate hospital medical therapy.”
Pope Francis is grateful for the many messages of support and prayer he has received. His closest staff, including security, are expected to stay overnight at the Gemelli Hospital.
This is a busy time of year for the Pope, with many events and services scheduled ahead of Easter weekend.
Despite his health issues, he has remained active and has even undertaken trips abroad. President Joe Biden has asked people to pray for the Pope’s recovery and described him as one of the “most Christ-like figures” he has ever met.
