Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the recently concluded election, has claimed that he is being pressured to leave Nigeria. In a statement released on Wednesday, Obi criticized two allegations made by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) against him.
Firstly, he accused the APC and certain government agencies of spreading propaganda against him. He stated that these attempts to discredit him are unfortunate and sad.
Secondly, Obi denied the authenticity of a viral video featuring him and Bishop David Oyedepo of the Winners’ Chapel. He insisted that the video is fake and that he did not make any statements implying that the 2023 election is a religious war.
Obi expressed disappointment at the attempts by the APC and the government to distract from the issue of their allegedly stolen mandate. Obi stated that their efforts to divert attention from the legal battle are regrettable. He reiterated his commitment to the democratic process and his determination to fight for the mandate that he believes was stolen from him.
His statement reads;
“These have come and continued to manifest in different ways, such as the malicious accusation of the Minister of Information, Mr Lai Mohammed, the circulation of a fake doctored audio call, and a pressure on me to leave the country.
“Let me reiterate that the audio call being circulated is fake, and at no time throughout the campaign and now did I ever say, think, or even imply that the 2023 election is, or was a religious war,” Obi said.
