The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, over allegations of anti-party activities and failure to pay his annual dues. The suspension was announced by the party’s Executive Committee in Igyorov Ward of Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to the party’s secretary, Banger Dooyum, Ayu worked against the party during the governorship and state assembly elections held on March 18, 2023. Dooyum also alleged that one of Ayu’s closest allies worked for the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC), which contributed to the PDP’s poor performance in Igyorov Ward.
Twelve out of the seventeen exco members and the ward chairman of Igyorov, Kashi Philip, signed the documents endorsing Ayu’s suspension. Ayu’s suspension has come as a surprise to many, as he has been a prominent figure in the PDP for many years.
