New Zealand-Nigerian mixed martial artist, Israel Adesanya, has described Nigeria as a “red flag” country due to its high level of corruption.
Speaking on the Hut Boxin’ audiovisual podcast, Adesanya expressed his love for Nigerians but pointed out that the government is desperate to siphon public funds.
“Nigeria is a very corrupt place. I love my people, but it is just that the government; everyone is trying to find a way to siphon money,” he said.
Adesanya’s comment comes after he recently donned the Nigerian flag as he defeated Alex Pereira via knockout at UFC 287 on April 9, 2023, to reclaim his Middleweight title.
The fight earned Adesanya a payout of $3.18 million, his highest-ever.
