He can afford such a media outing because he lives in America where he feels safe.
However, wanting to kill Putin will not be easy. He is more paranoid than ever. He is more isolated than ever. Strong internal complicities are needed.
NATO cannot afford such an adventure, because if it fails, Putin could go nuclear in a desperate move. The only way would be an internal overthrow.
If that failed, Putin would kill the opponents, but he would not be tempted to go so far as to use nuclear weapons. For the moment, however, it is difficult to imagine people plotting a coup behind Putin’s back and succeeding.
But after several months of this economic war, it is possible that some people will risk it, because they no longer want to suffer the consequences of a war they do not want.
This is one of the bets made by the West, but it is a long one.
