“May God Not Allow Us To Be Victims Of Mistaken Identity” – Twitter React After Mob Mistakes Innocent Man For Corrupt INEC Official

A Twitter user has shared a disturbing incident of mistaken identity that led to violence. According to the user, a former vice chancellor of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, who was sent by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to monitor an election, was mistaken for the INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa State.

The Adamawa REC, who is not authorized by law to announce election results, allegedly took a bribe of two billion naira cash and announced Aisha Binani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the Governor-elect, even though the collation of results was still ongoing. The Twitter user claims that the REC’s actions were seen as open treason, and people set out to find him to upturn the result and confess the truth.

However, in the process of searching for the REC, the mob came across his lookalike, who is also an INEC commissioner. Mistaking the former vice chancellor for the REC, the mob beat and almost stripped him naked, demanding that he confess and upturn the result. The man repeatedly told them that he was not the REC, but they did not believe him.
