The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, is asking Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, who were candidates in the presidential election, to call and congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after the Supreme Court’s ruling on Thursday.
Both Atiku and Obi went to the highest court to appeal their loss at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, PEPT.
However, the Supreme Court, in its main decision written and read by Justice Inyang Okoro, rejected the appeals of Atiku and Obi because they did not have enough valid reasons.
Keymo, on his X page, made a call in response and said that it is now the right time for nation-building.
He said: “The Supreme Court’s decision today shows that regular people on social media can now see that emotions and the law are very different.” These Election Petitions were pursued with a lot of unnecessary anger and hatred by most of the people involved. Today, they learned a tough lesson that showing anger, hate, and strong feelings is not appropriate in legal discussions and decisions. Their journey has abruptly stopped.
We kept making the same arguments to the other side, but they continued to give their followers false hope and encourage them to go in the wrong direction. Unfortunately for them, all the angry criticisms directed at the judiciary don’t have any effect on it. Our judges are always strong, brave, and intelligent. Congratulations to them.
What remains now is the task of building our nation. The other candidates for President should now reach out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and offer their congratulations as loyal citizens. As loyal citizens, we must come together to guide our country in the correct path. I hope all of us are doing well.
