Danish aid worker, Anja Ringgren Loven, has marked the 10th anniversary of the rescue of a young Nigerian girl who had been labelled a witch.
In 2013, Loven’s team found Charity, who had been outcast by her family and community after being accused of witchcraft. Loven, the founder of Land of Hope, took to Facebook to celebrate Charity’s progress since her rescue, posting before and after photos.

The young woman has grown into a strong, independent adult who will begin university next year, thanks to the support of the charity. Loven thanked supporters for their help and praised Charity’s resilience, saying “Today Charity has become such a strong and independent young woman and next year she will start university. All thanks to your amazing love and support.”
At the time of her rescue, Charity was malnourished, beaten and abused. Loven recalled how the young girl was found wearing a Chelsea football jersey many sizes too big for her, and how her body appeared “like a fragile feather”.
