A court in Kano State has ordered a man to kill his noisy cockerel after a neighbor complained about sleep deprivation caused by the bird’s crowing. The court has given the owner a deadline to kill the bird, despite his plea to keep it until Good Friday for a family feast.
Malam Yusuf had purchased the bird to celebrate Good Friday, but the court declared the cockerel a nuisance after hearing the neighbor’s complaint. However, the court granted Yusuf’s request to keep the bird until Friday, but warned him to ensure that the bird did not disturb the neighborhood.
The judge, Magistrate Halima Wali, has given Yusuf a deadline to kill the bird and warned him of the legal consequences if he fails to comply.
