APC Governors Backing Buni As Caretaker Chairman Revealed

Governors elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) backing Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe as the Caretaker Chairman of the party have been revealed.

Recall that Governor Nasir of El-Rufai of Kaduna state had claimed that 19 APC governors backed the removal of Buni as the party’s chairman and the appointment of Governor Sani Bello of Niger state as his successor.

Naija News can report that the APC governors supporting Buni have been identified by the immediate-past Director-General of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Salihu Lukman.

Lukman named the governors working with their Yobe counterpart as Yahaya Bello of Kogi, Hope Uzodinma of Imo, Dave Umahi of Ebonyi and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun.

He also claimed that the Senate Chief Whip and former governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and some party leaders are working with Buni to stop the party’s national convention slated for March 26 from holding.

Lukman said; “There are known collaborators of His Excellency Mai Mala who have colluded with him to ensure that all attempts to organise the APC National Convention are blocked.

“Three Governors who are known and must also be called upon to account for their roles in undermining decisions to organise the APC National Convention are His Excellency Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, His Excellency Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, and His Excellency Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State.

“There are other party leaders, including Sen Uzo Kalu who have actively supported His Excellency Mai Mala to undermine the decision to organise the National Convention of the party. The March 17, 2022 APC NEC should initiate processes of a disciplinary hearing in line with provisions of the APC Constitution to sanction all these leaders if found guilty.”

MC Oluomo: Lagos Assembly States Position On NURTW Crisis

Lagos Assembly States Position On NURTW Crisis

The Lagos State House of Assembly has backed the state government’s position to suspend the activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

The Chairman of the House Committee on Transportation, Hon. Temitope Adewale made the position of the Assembly known in a statement on Friday.

Adewale stated that the suspension of the NURTW activities in the state is the best action taken to douse the tension from the crisis rocking the union, adding that there is no contention over the state government’s decision.

The lawmaker said the assembly has already made a law creating the Lagos State Parking Authority, which should now oversee activities at all the parks in the State.

Adewale noted that the LSPA has a General Manager on whose shoulders the responsibility now falls to manage the parks at the moment.

He said: “It is clear to state that all parks, garages and parking activities would be under the Lagos State Parking Authority as stipulated by law.

“The law approves a General Manager for the Parking Authority.

“Lagosians should be calm. The situation is under control as the government takes necessary action.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State government has denied appointing Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo, as the Managing Director of Lagos State Transportation Parks and Garages Management Committee.

This is coming after one of the sons of the former Lagos NURTW council chairman, identified on Instagram as King-west, took to the platform to congratulate his father on his new appointment.

He wrote; “Congratulations boss, Alh. King Musillu Akinsanya Ayinde The GM/MD Lagos state Transportation, Parks and Garages Management Committee.. Oye Amori OOOO”

When Naija News contacted the Chief Press Secretary to the Lagos State governor, Gboyega Akosile, he said the news is false and should be discarded.

He added that MC Oluomo’s son does not work for the government, so he can’t speak for it.

Akosile said; “MC Oluomo’s son doesn’t work for the government and so can’t be quoted as speaking for us on the matter. There’s no such thing as that”

March 26 Intact For APC National Convention, INEC Has Been Informed – Ahmed

March 26 Intact For APC National Convention, INEC Has Been Informed - Ahmed

There is no need to forward another letter of notification to the Independent National Electoral Commission regarding the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention date, says Isameel Ahmed, a party chieftain.

Naija News reports that the politician stated this while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Friday.

He insisted that March 26 remains intact for the party’s national convention.

According to Ahmed, the ruling party had initially forwarded a letter to the electoral body for the earlier postponed date of 26th of February.

He said there was no need for another 21 days notification, stressing that the moment the CECPC agreed on the 26th of March, a letter was written to INEC and that the electoral body has accepted that letter.

Speaking about controversies concerning the party’s leadership, Ahmed who doubles as APC youths spokesman, said Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Bello was acting with the full authority of the caretaker committee, stakeholders, leaders of the party, and with the full consent of Buni.

He explained that while Governor Mai Mala Buni remained substantive Caretaker Chairman, Bello was only acting in his absence.

Ahmed said: “I’m not only a youth leader or internal spokesperson, but I’m also a lawyer and we have served a notice to INEC for the 26th of February earlier. We served that notice on the 5th of February and that was the required 21 days.

“If you are going to make any adjustment to that date, all you need is a letter, making an adjustment to the date. You don’t need another 21 days and that letter was since written about two weeks ago when we realised that we couldn’t hold it on the 26th of February. The moment, the CECPC agreed on the 26th of March, that letter was written to INEC, INEC has accepted that letter. So that is long gone is not an issue.”

Ahmed maintained that there was no issue about the convention date.

He added: “The issue of the date of the convention is not in question, not in INEC, not certainly with us. That is settled. It is sacrosanct that 26th of March and we have complied with all the rules and we have notified INEC as appropriately expected for us to do that. So that’s no longer an issue.

“Since the inception of this CECPC on June 25, 2020, whenever the chairman is not around and Governor Sani Bello is around, he acts on behalf of the acting Chairman. It has always been the case that has never changed. It has always been the case.

“And now we have a convention on the 26th of March, the chairman wrote a letter and transmitting, for his leave to go for medical treatment. These are two emergencies. He has a medical emergency that cannot wait for the convention. We have a convention that cannot wait for him to be healthy. So one has to leave for the other. The Chairman left, transmitted a letter, Governor Sani Bello has been acting appropriately. What is the problem? Why is it? Why is it difficult for people to simply understand that?“

NDLEA Intercepts Three Million Capsules Of Hard Drugs, Arrest Suspects

NDLEA Intercepts Three Million Capsules Of Hard Drugs, Arrest Suspects

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the interception and seizure of three million capsules of opioids.

The anti-narcotic agency in a statement on Friday by its spokesperson, Femi Babafemi said its operatives seized 3,000,000 capsules of Tapentadol and Carisoprodol weighing 1,500gs on Monday 7th March.

The drugs were seized at Jaelith Bonded Container Terminal under Tincan seaport in Apapa area of Lagos State, Naija News understands.

This follows a similar operation in which anti-narcotic officers of the NDLEA also intercepted 8,613gs of Loud cannabis smuggled in from Ghana through the waterways at the Eko Atlantic Beach, Victoria Island, Lagos the previous day, Sunday 6th March.

Mr. Babafemi added that the drugs were discovered and seized during a joint examination of a 20ft container, SUDU 7774749 with men of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

“Though the consignment was said to have originated from Ningbo province in China and falsely labelled as containing 271 packages of ‘insulating fittings, faucet water closet WC, industrial office printing machine’, investigations revealed that information on the bill of laden and shipping documents was fake.

“Further investigations uncovered that the container originated from India and arrived in Nigeria Apapa port on 10th February 2022.

“Findings showed that the Tramadol found and labelled as Tafrodol 120mg is actually Tapentadol, which is a more dangerous and potent opioid than Tramadol.

“It was also discovered that the container, SUDU 7774749 was consigned from India in Nhava Sheva port, then transloaded through Morocco and Ghana to Nigeria,” Babafemi said.

The statement added that meanwhile, based on credible intelligence, “operatives of the Lagos Command of the agency in the early hours of Sunday 6th March intercepted a consignment of Cannabis Sativa (Loud) weighing 8,613kgs smuggled from Ghana through the waterways to the Eko Atlantic Beachside, Victoria Island.”

Some drivers and their assistants: Adeyemi Bayioku, 31; Godwin Anya, 28; Yusuf Taofik, 20, and Adeniyi Adelaja, 19, who were on the ground to load the shipment into their vehicles were promptly arrested while two trucks, a Siena space bus, Peugeot Boxer bus and a Toyota Camry car were seized from them.

Solve The ‘Small Quarrel’ In Edo PDP – Obaseki Tells Iyorchia Ayu

Solve The 'Small Quarrel' In Edo PDP - Obaseki Tells Iyorchia Ayu

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has appealed to the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Iyorchia Ayu to help resolve the challenges facing the party in the state.

Obaseki made the call on Thursday when he played host to Ayu and some other national leaders of the party during a rally in Benin, the state capital.

According to Obaseki, the crisis plaguing the Edo State chapter of the PDP which he described as a ‘small quarrel’ is capable of scuttling the chances of the party in the state and also its contributions to the 2023 presidential election.

“The only issue that can stop us is the small quarrel in Edo PDP; once you can solve the quarrel in Edo and other states, we will take over power in 2023,” he said.

On his part, the National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu has declared that Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki won’t defect from the party.

Ayu gave the assurance amidst the challenges and disagreement threatening the PDP in Edo State.

Naija News reports the National Chairman’s declaration comes after Obaseki has declared that he has no intention of dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This is as he called out another chieftain of the party, Dan Orbih who is the PDP National Vice Chairman (south-south) to accept his leadership in Edo, urging him not to cause bad blood among party members, adding that those not ready to accept him as the leader should leave the party for him.

Also, the Edo Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu lamented that all is not well with the PDP in Edo State.

He said the challenges rocking the Edo PDP is why some of those who joined Governor Godwin Obaseki in dumping the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the PDP in 2020 are considering leaving the party again.

Shaibu however said despite the obvious challenges, he would remain with the PDP.

But the Edo Deputy Governor called on the party’s national leaders to integrate the aggrieved supporters who dumped APC for the PDP into the umbrella party, saying the state chapter has done the needful but the national is yet to comply.

However, speaking on Thursday during his visit to Edo State, Dr. Ayu assured that all the challenges facing the party will be resolved.

He added that the national body of the PDP will set up a team to look into all the issues and address all grievances of the stakeholders.

Ayu further warned PDP members in Edo not to allow any mistake that will allow the opposition party to seize power again.

He said: “The party will set up a team to resolve the crisis and we will ensure that the governor does not leave.”

“Obaseki is not going any where, we have captured him and through him we are going to unite PDP. Let no one deceive you, Obaseki is not leaving PDP. Nigerians will see how we will receive all those from other parties. In 2023, we shall be back in power”.

“Edo people should learn from my own state, Benue. If you fight, you will lose the election. I am going to bring a team that will settle the issue in Edo”.

“I have been working from behind, I am happy that the Deputy Governor, Shaibu said the truth that the leadership of the party in the state is not working. We are very close to solve the crisis in Edo.

“Once the leadership is divided, you won’t get a good result. All our emphasis is on unity. We cannot talk about taking over power in 2023 if our state leadership is not on good terms”.

Naija News understands party chieftains present at Thursday’s rally include the former governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwambo; Chairman, PDP Board of Trustees (BOT), Sen. Walid Jibrin; Senator Matthew Urhoghide; Senator Clifford Odia; Chief Tom Ikimi and PDP National Women Leader, Josephine Anenih, Edo House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun and State Chairman of the PDP, Tony Aziegbemi, among others but the PDP National Vice chairman, South South, Chief Dan Orbih who is believed to be at loggerheads with Obaseki was conspicuously missing.

IPOB: Ejimakor Speaks On Court Granting Kanu Bail

Simon Ekpa a self-acclaimed follower of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, leader, Nnamdi Kanu has said that the agitator no longer leads the group.

He said that the activist has been removed as the leader of the group and has been replaced with Sofia Chinyere Kalu.

He stated this in a Twitter post on Thursday in response to claims that Kanu has not been removed as IPOB’s leader.

In a tweet, Ekpa wrote: “It is a shame that those who claim to be fighting for Biafra, after removing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from being the leader of IPOB, can publicly and shamelessly debunk the news, even when it is obtainable online that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not the leader but Sofia Kalu.

“Disregard those claiming that MNK was not removed as the leader of IPOB. The fact is that they removed him, we busted and exposed them and till now MNK is not the leader, rather a corporate director of IPOB worldwide, CIC. We will explain this in a few minutes during the live broadcast.”

Earlier, this platform had reported the legal counsel to embattled Biafra Nation agitator, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has denied reports that he has been removed or replaced as the IPOB leader.

The reports making the rounds that Kanu has been replaced with one Sofia Chinyere Kalu as Director of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB in the United Kingdom has been trashed by his lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor.

A source said, “He will now travel to London to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari on the situation in the party.”

It was stated that the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami has arrived in London to also meet with President Buhari.

Another official believed to be traveling to London is the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
