The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Wendy Laing, has made a heartbreaking statement as she expressed her sadness at leaving the country after four and a half years of service.
Laing said: “I’m sad to be leaving. Nigeria is so much fun, I had a fabulous time here and I’ll be back.”
She added that Nigeria was a fun place to be and that she had a fabulous time during her stay. She said: “I love the dance, the music, the culture. It’s been good to experience Nigeria. I’ve been to over 20 states, and I’ve told my successor to also do the same. I’ll be back, and still travel wider.”
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, Laing congratulated President Buhari for his successful eight years in office, saying he had done an excellent job of holding the country together.
President Buhari praised the United Kingdom for its cooperation on many fronts, particularly in the rebuilding of the Northeast region, which had been ravaged by insurgency.
Buhari said that the UK was a second home for many Nigerians, and that relations between the two countries would continue to be strong. The President also expressed his desire to retire in Daura, Katsina State, after handing over on May 29, stating that he would be as far away from Abuja as possible.
