Rejection Of Abba Kyari’s Bail Application Excites Nigerians

Nigerians have taken to social to react to the news that the embattled former head of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Abba Kyari has been denied bail by the court.

Naija News earlier reported that Kyari’s bail application was denied on Monday by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Following his arrest and subsequent transfer to the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for drug-related offences, Kyari had approached the court asking for bail on health grounds.

But giving the ruling on Monday, Justice Inyang Ekwo said the application had been overtaken by events following another court order granting NDLEA permission to hold Kyari for another 14 days to enable it to conclude its investigation.

Justice Ekwo said he was inclined to hear Kyari’s fundamental enforcement rights suit with the urgency it deserves after the expiration of the 14-day court order.

The judge then adjourned until March 15 to hear Kyari’s application to demand his fundamental right enforcement.

The bail denial has now generated reactions online with so many Nigerians hailing the court for keeping the embattled police officer in the custody of the NDLEA.

Below are some of the reactions online:

@UgalaMicah wrote: “They should hurry up with the investigation of his case, charge him to court, and he should go and be waiting for trial alongside many people he and his team have kept, awaiting trial for months and years now.
Something is telling me, he’s afraid of meeting such persons in prison.”

@MaaziBhengz wrote: “The court should sentence him to life imprisonment without parole. Dealing with 25kg of cocaine plus the Hushpuppi issue is not a lenient crime and deserves hard punishment.”

@Kinglennox01 wrote: “FBI, please come and extract this man Abba Kyari to the US, he’s a criminal and also a drug baron.. he should face what he and his team have been doing others, please @FBIjustice should prevail.. please come to Nigeria.”This article was originally published on Nigeria News
