The Abia state government has reportedly uncovered a plot by certain politicians to sponsor a blackmail campaign against Governor Alex Otti.
In a statement signed by Ferdinand Ekeoma, the Senior Special Adviser to Gov. Otti on Media, the government claimed that individuals have paid certain media outfits to disseminate false narratives about Otti’s administration.
According to Ekeoma, the orchestrators of the plot gathered media representatives in Abuja, providing them with fake documents to support a media onslaught against the governor. The statement alleges that the campaign is financed by those who lost in the governorship polls and seeks to tarnish Otti’s achievements and credentials.
Ekeoma stated, “Governor Alex Otti holds the popular mandate of Abia people in trust and enjoys the overwhelming support of Abia masses who are already heaving a sigh of relief since his assumption of office, no form of orchestrated and senseless media attack can diminish his towering credentials and verifiable achievements as being acknowledged by Abians.”
The government contends that the individuals behind the alleged smear campaign are motivated by the rejection of their leadership style by the people in the polls and that such campaigns cannot undo the positive perception of Governor Otti’s performance among Abians.
