Achraf Hakimi, a 24-year-old footballer who has been making headlines for his legal troubles and marital issues, is facing accusations of transferring all his money and assets to his mother’s name to protect them from his estranged wife, Hiba Abouk. The couple, who are currently undergoing divorce proceedings, have been legally separated since the allegations of rape were made against Hakimi by a 24-year-old woman last month.
Hakimi’s case is not the first instance of a celebrity trying to protect their assets during a divorce. In 1994, Gabriel Villa secretly divorced his wife Christina just months after their wedding, without her knowledge, to protect his assets.
The couple had been married for 20 years and had a son together, living between their homes in New York and France. Christina discovered the secret divorce only when she found out that their divorce was nullified.
Gabriel had arranged for a divorce in the Dominican Republic, citing “incompatibility of temperaments” as the reason for the split, despite the fact that they did not live in the Dominican Republic. The divorce was never registered in New York, and Christina claims that she was never informed or given authorization for the divorce.
