British Government Apologizes To Peter Obi For Unlawful Detention

The British government has issued an apology to Nigerian Labour Party Presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, after immigration officials wrongfully detained him at Heathrow Airport in London on April 7, 2023.

The officials had detained Obi for committing several alleged financial crimes only to find out that he was being impersonated.

The Head of Obi-Datti Media Office, Diran Onifade, stated that the former Governor of Anambra State was wrongly detained over offences allegedly committed by an impostor who is still at large.

The immigration authorities have acknowledged their mistake and issued a personal apology, stating that the uncomplimentary treatment Obi received was “completely unacceptable.”

The officials also confirmed that the actions of the immigration officer were “appalling.” Obi’s media office has expressed concern that the impostor may commit various crimes that would lead to the arrest of the LP flagbearer in the United Kingdom for duplication.
