Canadian rapper Drake has struck gold after placing two massive bets on Israel Adesanya to reclaim the middleweight title at UFC 287. The Nigerian-born New Zealander won back the 185lb title just five months after losing it to his bitter rival, Alex Pereira, who had previously beaten him twice in kickboxing.
Drake had previously lost $1.6 million after backing Adesanya in his first fight against Pereira. However, he made amends by placing a $500,000 bet on Adesanya to win, which earned him $885,000, and a $400,000 bet for him to win by knockout, which brought in an impressive $1.8 million.
Adesanya’s victory over Pereira was a remarkable feat, which saw him clinch his 24th career victory in mixed martial arts (MMA) and only suffer two losses.
