Obi’s Political Future In Jeopardy As INEC Takes Further Action After Alleged N3 Billion Budget To Defend Election Result

Peter Obi’s political future is in jeopardy as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) takes further action regarding the alleged use of N3 billion to defend the election result. From latest report, INEC has hired a team of nine Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) to defend its conduct of the 2023 presidential election, which saw Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared as the winner.

Obi, who contested under the Labour Party (LP), came third in the election with a total of 6,101,533 votes. He has challenged INEC’s declaration of Tinubu as the winner of the presidential election, alleging rigging in 11 states and vowing to prove his claim based on the uploaded results. Obi has also alleged that Tinubu was not qualified to contest the election, citing a $460,000 fine for an alleged offence involving dishonesty, particularly narcotics trafficking, imposed by the United States District Court.

The appointment of the SANs to defend INEC’s conduct of the election is seen as a sign of the commission’s determination to resist any legal challenges to the outcome of the election.
