The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cleared the air on the purported attack on the home of its Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu. In a statement released on Monday, INEC denied that the property being attacked in a viral video on social media belonged to Prof. Yakubu.
The statement further clarified that the INEC Chairman does not own the property in question in Bauchi or anywhere else in the world. According to INEC, the video is part of a “desperate smear campaign” by mischief makers to tarnish the image of the commission and its leadership.

“This narrative is indeed the latest in the series of desperate smear campaign efforts by mischief makers. The public should disregard it.”
